One of the more frequent questions we here at Elsie Wolfe get asked is, can I add vintage furniture to my home even though my house is modern? The answer? Defiantly! Here are some great tips on how to start living with vintage that we wanted to share with you.
Work out what kind of vintage style your into by picking out small vintage accent pieces. The best starting point is to pick out pieces that are useful and serve a purpose.
Just keep it really simple with small accents like candle holders, vintage Agee jars filled with fairy lights, antique ceramics or something like these Krupuk Tins which add character grouped together in a dining room or kitchen. Personally William and I collect vintage advertising pieces and have pieces in most rooms of the house now as well as a garage full of more trying to make their way inside.
What ever you get your hands on first, make sure you really love it, as it might end up telling a story about you?
Remember, not everything in your room has to be vintage. Having one key piece of vintage furniture as a starting point, is a great way to build out your vintage style.
We love vintage shelving or a vintage cabinet at Elsie Wolfe as they can be so versatile and used in so many different rooms in the home, even the garage. This farmhouse cabinet is a great example, we could see this working in a bedroom, office or dining room, bathroom or a kitchen pantry, styled with a few key pieces it could make a real statement.
So you’re serious about getting into vintage. Go for a bigger, more imposing piece of vintage furniture that can be decked out with other vintage pieces like this rustic dining room table. This not only makes a great vintage statement but is also perfect for entertaining and family dinners, this table looks awesome paired with modern stools and a vibrant kitchen. A dining table will instantly transform the room and can be dressed up for formal dining and also dressed down for casual family dining. Style with a few other vintage pieces, candles and a linen runner for the ultimate vintage style.
If you don’t feel like you’re an interior designer just yet! Find something you truly love and always go with your gut on a purchase. The beauty of mix matching vintage with a modern home is its up to you how vintage you go, all while knowing 10 doors down does not the same piece of flat pack not built to last furniture.
